Latisse is an FDA-approved prescription treatment that helps you to grow fuller and longer lashes. Not all people are candidates for this treatment program, so you do need to make sure that you speak to a specialist about your unique circumstances. Latisse is a topical solution that is applied nightly to the lashes before bed. Though results are gradual, after 16 weeks of directed use you can expect to notice a dramatic difference in the appearance of your lashes. Typically, length begins to appear after about four weeks, increased thickness and darkness after eight weeks, and full, dramatic results by 16 weeks. Participants in a clinical trial had lashes that were 25 percent longer, 106 percent fuller, and 18 percent darker after four months of use. However, if you discontinue use of the product, your lashes will slowly return to their original appearance.

The product works by stimulating the anagen, or growth cycle, of your eyelashes. Latisse was developed after doctors noticed that patients using a certain type of eyedrop for increased eye pressure began to develop longer, fuller, darker lashes. The active ingredient in Latisse is bimatoprost, which was approved by the FDA in 2008 specifically for use for lash growth.

While Latisse is generally safe, side effects may include itching, redness in the eyes, discoloration of the eyelids, eye irritation, and dryness. You should also avoid using Latisse when you have contact lenses in, waiting at least 15 minutes after applying Latisse before inserting lenses. It’s important to follow all package and doctor instructions in order to use Latisse safely and avoid developing potential side effects.
