As we age, our face deflates and descends with loss of volume with a tired, sunken appearance. Unlike surgical face lifts which stretch the skin, dermal fillers work by reducing lines and folds, and restoring volume for a more natural, facial rejuvenation – without the recovery time associated with invasive surgery.

The History of Dermal Fillers
Many years ago Bovine Collagen was used to fill lines. The results and duration varied greatly and due to the risk of allergic reactions, a “test injection” was always required. In more recent years the most commonly used fillers are made of Hyaluronic acid. Hyaluronic Acid resides in all living things and therefore Dr. Denton never sees a reaction at his Vancouver clinic to Juvederm, Restylane and Voluma which all contain Hyaluronic Acid. The difference in these products is their compressibility and particle size. Dr. Denton also utilizes Radiesse, which is a non-Hyaluronic semi-permanent filler. At the Pender Medi Spa we select the most appropriate filler for every unique individual.
What To Expect
Unfortunately, there are many poor Lip and Facial injections done. Every individual is unique as to what subtle changes will improve their appearance; without looking like they have been “done”. Dr. Denton prides himself in giving you a safe and natural enhancement. Please come visit either of our 2 locations to see how our portfolio of Lip and Facial enhancements appears.
Unfortunately, a small minority of patients will get a small bruise following a dermal filler injection. We use a very thin needle and apply pressure for 10 minutes after injections to minimize this risk.
We recommend the following prior to a dermal filler procedure:
-
- Avoid Aspirin (ASA), Vitamin E, Ibuprofen(Motrin or Advil), Naproxen(Aleve). and Ginkgo Biloba for 4 days prior to your appointment
- Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior to your appointment.
- Eat Kiwi and Pineapple prior to and after your appointment. These fruits contain Bromelain, which helps reduce bruising
- If you are on blood thinners, or have any bruising problems, please notify the doctor prior to your treatment
Modern Dermal Fillers
Dermal fillers are commonly used for cheek enhancement, chin augmentation, lip enhancement, smoothing the jaw line, improving acne scars, reducing smile lines, and improving dark hollows under the eyes. Due to Dr. Denton’s extensive experience with fillers, he is also able to perform nasal bridge augmentation and nose corrections with results comparable to those obtained through surgical procedures.
Once the appropriate filler has been selected for your desired result, it is injected under the skin using a fine needle to minimize discomfort. Since most filler products now also contain Lidocaine (an anaesthetic), the treatment is gentle and virtually painless. The procedure lasts approximately 30 minutes, and the results are an instant facial rejuvenation, with most patients returning to their normal routines immediately. Depending on the amount and type of filler selected, results may last from 6 to 72 months.
